Organized Sessions- Deadline: July 16, 2017

Organized Sessions offer the opportunities for attendees to organize a series of presentations related to any of the conference themes. Paper sessions will be comprised of 4-6 paper presentations with a suggested time of 20 minutes per speaker (15 mins presenting, 5 mins Q & A). Roundtable, panel discussions and other formats are also welcome. Speakers are scheduled according to the organizer’s preferences. Organized Sessions are scheduled to run concurrently with other conference sessions.

All submissions must be in English. Participants will not be allowed more than one oral presentation, but may be listed as a co-author of several abstracts.

Organizers of all types of sessions will be responsible for:

1. Being the primary point of contact with the Pathways Africa Conference Planning Committee.
2. Identifying and inviting their sessions participants and ensuring that  they are registered for the conference and will attend the session.
3. Serving as the chair (or designating a person to chair) for each session.

An organized session is a session lasting 90 or 120 minutes that includes 4-6 abstracts that address a common theme and includes at least 4 presenting authors. Speakers are scheduled according to the organizer’s preferences, with a suggested time of 20 minutes per speaker (15 mins presenting, 5 mins Q & A). For panel sessions and round tables, please allow time for discussion, question and answer periods, etc.

You are invited  to propose coordinated paper presentations, panel discussions, or round tables. Session organizers are responsible for identifying and inviting their sessions participants.  For all types of organized sessions, organizers are encouraged to seek a geographically and intellectually diverse group of participants. We strongly encourage all organized sessions to identify contributors whose work will allow for comparisons across different theoretical or disciplinary perspectives, methodological approaches, and geographic and cultural contexts.

The session coordinator should adhere to the following guidelines when submitting an organized session through this system:

Step 1): Create an account with Exordo by visiting:

Step 2): Select either the “Organized Session (90 min)” or “Organized Session (120 min)” option.

Step 3): Provide a title (≤8 words) and detailed description (purpose and content) for the organized session (≤350 words). Enter this into the online form. For panel discussions, round tables, or other (i.e., not oral presentations) the proposal should indicate the proposed session format.

Step 4): Please upload a PDF list of proposed presenters or panelists and include A) the title of their presentation or topic that they will cover, B) their title and affiliation, and C) their email address. Use the “Attach” button provided to upload this PDF. If your session includes individual presentations then we strongly encourage you to upload a second PDF with the abstracts for all presentations included in your session (this is encouraged but not required).

Step 5): Enter the name and affiliation information for the session organizer(s) in the online system under author. Please mark “corresponding author.” Only include session organizers here.

Step 6): Choose up to 3 themes that accurately categorize your organized session.

The Pathways Africa conference theme is “Living with Wildlife”. This theme will guide the development of our plenary and training program. We encourage presentations that fall within the Pathways Africa conference theme, but this is not a requirement. These are potential areas for sessions, panels or individual presentations. These topics will be used to place your abstract in an appropriate session if your submission is not part of an organized session.

Step 7): If your organized session is accepted and your session includes multiple individual presenters then you will be sent instructions on how to upload these abstracts and link them to your session. DO NOT enter individual abstracts associated with an organized session into the system unless you have received an invitation and instructions on how to do this. Prior to acceptance these will only be considered as part of your session proposal if uploaded in PDF format.

All accepted presenters must register and pay for the conference no later than October 15, 2017. Late cancellations prohibit others from presenting their findings, so please be considerate in making your decision to submit.


Those who are selected to present will be required to submit their PowerPoint files no later than January 1, 2018. We recommend uploading early. You will be able to make revisions to your presentation by logging into your online account up until January 1, 2018. Please do not send any presentations until after we have confirmed that your abstract has been accepted. Furthermore, please make sure to bring a backup copy of your presentation with you to to conference.
