AHPC Studies Inform Foie Gras Ban in Portland and Debates in Washington, D.C.

AHPC studies on foie gras have been featured in several media articles about potential foie gras bans in Portland, Oregon and Washington, D.C.

A June, 2026 article in NOTUS cited an AHPC study on foie gras prevalence across U.S. cities when discussing the initiative to ban foie gras in Washington D.C.: “A recent study from Colorado State University’s Animal-Human Policy Center says D.C. is tied with Las Vegas for having the second-highest number of restaurants serving foie gras in the country; New York is first.”

A June, 2026 article in Oregon Live discussed how AHPC research persuaded Portland city council to pass a foie gras ban: “Novick said he was encouraged in his decision by a recent report from the Animal-Human Policy Center at Colorado State University showing that 81% of some 250 Portland residents polled would support a ban on the sale of foie gras.”
