<a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/idx.htm\">Index<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: medium\"><b>Individual Covariates and Real Parameter Estimates<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">When individual covariates are used in a model, the <a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/real_parameter.htm\">real<\/a> parameter estimates and the <a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/derived_parameters.htm\">derived<\/a> parameter estimates are different for each set of individual covariate values in the model.\u00a0 In the <a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/run_window.htm\">Run Window<\/a>, 3 options are available to select what individual covariate values are used to compute the real and derived parameter estimates displayed in the output.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">The first option is to use the individual covariate values for the first encounter history in the <a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/encounter_histories_file.htm\">encounter histories file<\/a>.\u00a0 This option just provides a (possibly) reasonable set of real parameter estimates for an individual.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">The second option is to use the mean value of each of the individual covariates in the model.\u00a0 This option normally makes a lot of sense, except in cases where dummy variables are included in the individual covariates.\u00a0 For example, suppose adults are coded as 1 and subadults coded as 0.\u00a0 What does it mean to compute real parameter values for the mean of this age variable?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">The last option is to allow the user to specify values of the individual covariates to use to compute the real parameter estimates.\u00a0 This option is particularly useful when combined with the <a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/standardize_individual_covariates.htm\">Standardize Individual Covariates<\/a> option, because the mean of a standardized covariate is 0, and roughly 95% of the values will be &lt;1.96, and roughly 95% of the values will be &gt;-1.96.\u00a0 Thus a range of the real parameter estimates can be computed by using a range of the individual covariate values.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">The value of the individual covariate used to compute the real and derived parameters can be changed in the model output using the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/regeneraterealderivedmodels.htm\">ReGenerate Real Derived Model(s)<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"> menu choice under the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/results_browser.htm\">Results Browser<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"> Run menu.\u00a0 This option is useful for <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/model_averaging.htm\">model averaging<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"> when some of the models were run with different individual covariate values than other models.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">You can graph the relationship between a real paramete and an individual covarariate with the <a href=\"http:\/\/oldweb.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/~gwhite\/mark\/markhelp\/individual_covariate_plot.htm\">Individual Covariate Plot<\/a> capability.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contents &#8211;
