<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/gwhite\/mark-program-help-file-index\/\">Index<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: medium\"><b>Design Matrix Cell Size<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">To change the number of characters used in constructing the <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/gwhite\/design-matrix\/\">design matrix<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"> cells, click the File | Preferences menu choices to get the <a href=\"https:\/\/sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/gwhite\/set-preferences\/\">Set Preferences<\/a> dialog, and specify the number of characters required in the appropriate dialog box.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">This option allows the user to change the maximum number of characters that can be entered in a <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/gwhite\/design-matrix\/\">design matrix<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"> cell.\u00a0 Typically, values of 0 and 1 are entered in design matrix cells to code indicator variables, and these values would only require 1 character.\u00a0 Trend covariates &gt;9 require 2 characters, or &gt;99 require 3 characters.\u00a0 Individual covariate names can require up to 10 characters.\u00a0 Complex design matrix <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/gwhite\/design-matrix-functions\/\">functions<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"> of <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/gwhite\/individual-covariates-basic\/\">individual covariates<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"> can require a much larger number of characters.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">However, specifying a large number of characters can greatly slow the creation and modification of large design matrices.\u00a0 So, to speed up these processes, the user should consider specifying the maximum cell size needed in the design matrix, and\/or also to turn off the design matrix <\/span><span style=\"font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\"><a href=\"https:\/\/sites.warnercnr.colostate.edu\/gwhite\/design-matrix-colors\/\">colors<\/a><\/span><span style=\"color: #0000ff;font-family: Arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size: small\">.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contents &#8211;
