About me

My professional objective is to improve the analytics that can be used to address real-world natural resources management problem. The tools I am interested in are from data science, computer science, operations research, machine learning and statistics. I want to reach my objective through innovation, teaching/mentoring, and extension/outreach/service activities. My teaching has been mostly focused on transferring core knowledge and technical skills to undergraduate students and encouraging them to learn independently during their future careers. Graduate students benefit more from selecting the correct research directions, one-on-one advising, and small group discussion. My research has been focused on developing tools/models/systems to expand our collective ability to assemble the best available data, discover new knowledge, and make better management decisions. My passion in extension/outreach/service is to learn from diverse land managers/stakeholders, and to help managers identify and analyze alternative land management options to achieve their long-term natural resource management goals.
