Pride Lion Conservation Alliance
Founded in 2015 by six leading field-based conservationists, the Pride Lion Conservation Alliance seeks to demonstrate a new model of collaboration that aims to save more lions and inspire and improve future conservation efforts. Pride’s founding members lead carnivore conservation projects in four key lion range countries, researching and protecting more than 20% of Africa’s existing wild lion population. Together, Pride’s founders have joined forces, using their collective 100+ years of experience – as leaders, influencers, strategists, and on-the-ground field conservationists – to share knowledge and replicate each other’s success across project sites to impact conservation on a meaningful scale. The Pride Alliance combines rigorous science with its community conservation efforts, collectively employing hundreds of local people and engaging thousands in its efforts each year to address the biggest threats to lions and improve the lives of local people. Pride believes that true collaboration — based on trust, transparency, and a shared commitment to ethical practices — will increase the effectiveness of its conservation efforts and ensure a future for Africa’s wild lions.
Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, Colorado STate University
The Department of Human Dimensions of Natural Resources (HDNR) at Colorado State University is well positioned to meet complex challenges of natural resource management with a growing global population. We do this through understanding and attending to the needs and values of humans, human society and culture as they relate to the conservation and enjoyment of the natural environment. It is HDNR’s mission to empower people to explore and sustain their world. With HDNR’s belief in integrity, impact, diversity, innovation, sustainability and well-being, the vision of the department to re-imagine learning and discovery to benefit both people and the natural world. The Department offers an MS and PhD in Human Dimensions of Natural Resources, an MS in Tourism Management, and an MS in Conservation Leadership; as well as graduate certificates in Adventure Tourism, Communications for Conservation and Ski Area Management. The Department is one of seven programs in the U.S. that offers a comprehensive Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral Program.
