Bridging Science and Politics in Conservation
Presented by:

Time/Date:
Sunday, September 7, 2025, 8:00 am – 4:00 pm | YMCA of the Rockies
Description:
American wildlife conservation is rooted in a scientific tradition that draws heavily on biological principles for wildlife management. While those principles have helped to advance significant efforts for species conservation, many practitioners find themselves today ill-equipped to deal with the messy, tangled blend of scientific and political conservation crises unfolding around us. In this one-day training, we will discuss the evolving relationship between scienceĀ and politics in conservation, interrogate why wildlife conservation often feels like such a polarizing topic, and explore how shifting our governance approaches may help to blend forms of scientific and social evidence together to more sustainably inform decision-making.
By the end of this training, attendees will have the skills to:
- articulate the contributions that both science and public input provide to wildlife conservation
- design public engagement strategies appropriate to solving conservation challenges
- apply basic facilitation practices to support science-informed public engagement
