Diversity, Inclusion, and Social Justice in Conservation
We pursue research aimed at understanding barriers to diversity and inclusion in science and academia, and we use our findings to advocate for evidence-based solutions to these challenges.
Advancing diversity and inclusion in science
Our research on diversity and inclusion has evaluated gender disparities among invited speakers at ecology conferences, identified barriers and motivations among faculty that limit or enhance participation in activities that advance diversity and inclusion, investigated strategies for organizations to attract diverse applicant pools to field internships, identified barriers and opportunities to increase inclusion for LGBTQIA+ scientists in conservation, provided tools for evaluating diversity statements, and is evaluating the effectiveness of diversity and inclusion initiatives across the U.S.
Community-centered conservation
We partner with organizations and communities to conduct science that is driven by local and Indigenous communities and their needs. We use ethical practices to ensure that our research process is transparent and guided by community consent before, during, and after our research is conducted.
