2019 HAR Summer Field Tour

HAR will be co-sponsoring a Summer Field Tour on June 2, 2019, in association with the American Society of Mining and Reclamation Annual Meeting.

We will be visiting the McLaren Reclamation Project, located near Cooke City, Montana, just outside the north edge of Yellowstone National Park. Lunch and transportation to the site from Bozeman (MT) will be provided. Please see ‘Professional Field Tour 1‘ on the ASMR meeting website or click here for additional information.

Participants will be picked up and dropped off at the Country Inn and Suites in Bozeman on June 2. A block of rooms has been reserved at the Country Inn and Suites for the night of June 1. Call the hotel and reference the ASMR Room Block at 406.586.2230 on or before May 1 to make your reservation.

About the site from the Montana Department of Environmental Quality website:

In 1988, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency designated the site an Emergency Response Action Site following the Yellowstone fires. Montana DEQ began work to excavate the tailings safely in June 2010. Approximately 2,000 feet of Soda Butte Creek has been reconstructed in the area that was covered by the mine waste and the creek has been returned to its historical location. Revegetation of the site occurred during the 2014 construction season and major work at the project was completed in October 2014.
