2024 Summer Field Tour

Post-Fire Revegetation

24 July 2024, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM MDT

Thank you for joining us for the 2024 Field Tour! We hope you’ll join us again next year.

Thanks to Ashley Giles, Cini Brown, Gloria Edwards, and Tim Hoelzle for the pictures!

Stops during the 2024 tour included:

  • OneCanopy, a nursery in Loveland, CO specializing in growing native plant materials for post-fire and post-flood revegetation. We will begin and end the day here, with ample parking and breakfast provided.
  • Picnic Rock Natural Area, where Larimer County is fighting to reclaim ground from resilient Feral Rye. Legend has it that the 2004 fire may have been started by a lightning strike!
  • Kyle Gulch, which has been suffering from the effects of inadequate intervention, with a simple unseeded topsoil layer providing plenty of habitat for cheatgrass. Willow staking and hardscape efforts seem to be taking hold in the meantime, reducing sedimentation issues upstream.
  • CSU Mountain Campus, where we’ll be stopping for lunch and a presentation on intervention methods, conifer establishment and growth, aerial mulching efforts, and other research topics.
  • Bobcat Ridge Natural Area, which is making efforts in seeding, cheatgrass control methods, drought and flooding management, and pollinator habitat support.
All times are in Mountain Daylight Time (MDT)
